Can, could, have to, must, might and should

Can

"Can" is one of the most commonly used modal verbs in English. It can be used to express ability or opportunity, to request or offer permission, and to show possibility or impossibility.

Examples:
  • I can ride a horse. --> ability
  • We can stay with my brother when we are in Paris. -->opportunity
  • She cannot stay out after 10 PM. --> permission
  • Can you hand me the stapler? --> request
  • Any child can grow up to be president. --> possibility

Could

"Could" is used to express possibility or past ability as well as to make suggestions and requests. "Could" is also commonly used in conditional sentences as the conditional form of "can."
Examples:
  • Extreme rain could cause the river to flood the city. --> possibility
  • Nancy could ski like a pro by the age of 11. --> past ability
  • You could see a movie or go out to dinner. --> suggestion
  • Could I use your computer to email my boss? --> request
  • We could go on the trip if I didn't have to work this weekend. --> conditional

Have to

"Have to" is used to express certainty, necessity, and obligation.
Examples:
  • This answer has to be correct. --> certainty
  • The soup has to be stirred continuously to prevent burning. --> necessity
  • They have to leave early. --> obligation

Must

"Must" is most commonly used to express certainty. It can also be used to express necessity or strong recommendation, although native speakers prefer the more flexible form "have to." "Must not" can be used to prohibit actions, but this sounds very severe; speakers prefer to use softer modal verbs such as "should not" or "ought not" to dissuade rather than prohibit.

Examples:

•   This must be the right address! --> certainty
•   Students must pass an entrance examination to study at this school. --> necessity
•   You must take some medicine for that cough. --> strong recommendation
•   Jenny, you must not play in the street! --> prohibition

Might

"Might" is most commonly used to express possibility. It is also often used in conditional sentences. English speakers can also use "might" to make suggestions or requests, although this is less common in American English.
Examples:
  • Your purse might be in the living room. --> possibility
  • If I didn't have to work, I might go with you. --> conditional
  • You might visit the botanical gardens during your visit. --> suggestion
  • Might I borrow your pen? --> request
Should

"Should" is most commonly used to make recommendations or give advice. It can also be used to express obligation as well as expectation.
Examples:
  • When you go to Berlin, you should visit the palaces in Potsdam. --> recommendation
  • You should focus more on your family and less on work. --> advice
  • I really should be in the office by 7:00 AM. --> obligation
  • By now, they should already be in Dubai. --> expectation

Linkin Park's new music

Linkin Park has a new music called ''The Catalyst'' that was released last month in United States of America.

The new song was approved by their fans, and because of that, new concerts are already being planned for the next years, just like a new digression around the world.
If you are a fan of this band, you can watch their performance in Lisbon, on the 10th September of 2012 in Rock in Rio Festival. But,  if you want to go to their concert, you have to buy the tickets as soon as they're released because they will probably be sold out very fast.
In the meanwhile, you can listen their music as you wait for their concert. The band hopes the fans will be surprised by their performance.

A minha reflexão:

A minha reflexão:

Tinha várias coisas e seleccionei as melhores e coloquei aqui, no blog. Gostei de fazer este trabalho, pois aprendi mais, e estou contente com o resultado, acho que se percebe bem esta matéria (:

Marley & Me - the movie

Genre: Dramatic Comedy
Direction: David Frankel
Editor: Mark Livosin
Production: Karen Rosenvelt, Gil Netter
Executive Producers: Joe Caracciolo, Arnon Milchan
Cast: Jennifer Aniston (Jennifer Gorgan), Owen Wilson (John Gorgan), Eric Dane (Sebastian), Kathleen Turner ( Mrs.Kornblut), Alan Arkin ( Arnie Klein), Nathan Gamble (Patrick (Age 10)), Haley Bennet (Lisa), Ann Dowd (Dr. Platt), Clarke Peters (Editor), Finley Jacobsen (Connor (Age 8)), Lucy Merriam (Colleen (Age 5)), Keith Hudson (Big Guy).

''Marley & Me'' is one of the best movies I've ever seen! It's beautiful but, in the end, it's so sad!

This story speaks about a very playful dog that, in the beginning nobody liked because he didn't stop playing! Marley (the dog) loved to play with child, and child loved to play with him. He took care of them and he was very sensible and so cute! The master loved him too, but he tought Marley was a little crazy.

I love the movie! Especcially the end. It's sad but, at the same time,  it's very emotional! I think the thing that attracts most people to this film is that image the cute puppy with adorable puppy eyes. (:

I recommended this film, obviously! The love for dogs and the complicity was the principal topic and I loved it. People should see it because it's adorable and a very sweet film!

Material Things

''It's amazing how much we have ! It really doesn't make one's life much happier. I wish more people saved more, invested more, and gave more to charity. It certainly makes you feel better when you realize that some of your money is actually going towards a productive purpose, rather than a nice DVD player or computer system.''
Jason Ramage, 16

I agree with this comment, because for some people material things are more important than food, for example.
Almost no one saves money or give it to charity. Most of people spend on things that don't need and many people want food and don't have.
There are people who are crazy about Playstation and just buy the latest model without  thinking that that money could help many people. They haven't aware of how to spend money and they haven't scared of to spend.
